Spring 2024 Newsletter
Hello from Roy,
It is so nice to see spring arrive. The weather has improved and there is now boat activity on the lake again. Too bad that with spring comes bugs, but the good news is that as I am writing this I see many dragonflies feasting outside. Also this is an exciting time of year for all of us who are fishing enthusiasts as the fishing season begins.
Your executive board met on May 19th and have now set dates for activities this coming summer. Since North Frontenac’s Summerfest is July 20th, the BLA’s AGM is scheduled for Sunday, July 21st, 9:30am at Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna. Also, as mentioned in the fall newsletter, we are organizing a social bbq event on the lake for August 10th at 1pm. More details will be sent out in the following weeks. Hope to see all of you there for both of these dates.
Membership is always important to a successful lake association, so please remember to pay your membership dues.
Although we have had a fair amount of rain this spring, I would also like to remind everyone, as we head into the summer months to take extra care when having any sort of open fire. I’m sure we all remember the fire at Centennial Lake last year. North Frontenac & Addington Highland websites provide status updates and info on fire bylaws.

MEMBERSHIP
The Buckshot Lake Association can only be successful if we have a healthy membership. For each year in the recent past, we set a goal of maintaining a membership of 70. This allows us to have the appropriate funds for our expenses, such as insurance, shoal markers, and FOCA membership.
As you know, inflation has created difficulties with budgets for everyone. The BLA executive agreed not to increase fees; instead, we have set our 2024 membership goal to a minimum of 80 members.
Last year, membership reached 77, so we believe 80 is attainable. We want to remind everyone that membership fee payment is easily done by following the instructions on our website.
Additionally, starting at the beginning of July board members will be going door to door, introducing ourselves, reviewing what the BLA does, as well as listening to and sharing ideas with all property owners. During these visits, we hope to welcome new members to the association. Please spread the word to your neighbours.
BUCKSHOT LAKE BBQ
We are very excited to announce that the BLA will be hosting a bbq on August 10th at 1pm at the Ward residence. This will be a fun event for everyone to socialize and meet new friends. We are planning on having hamburgers, hotdogs and salads. There will be no charge for the bbq but donations will be welcomed. We will also make this part of our membership drive so non-members on the lake will also be invited.
More information will be sent out next month. We look forward to seeing everyone. This event will be posted on our website and the Buckshot Lake FB page.
PHOTO CONTEST
We will be running the Buckshot Lake Photo contest again this year. This has been a very popular activity and we look forward to seeing the beautiful pictures taken over the next few months. Please see the Photo Contest Page for details.
The BLA executive would like to thank Donna Crome for all her work administering this contest over the years. Russ Brown will be leading this activity this year.
NFLAA UPDATE
The NFLAA continues to advocate on our behalf. The next NFLAA AGM is being held May 29th. We will have more information after the meeting. An update will be provided in the summer newsletter, and at our AGM July 21.
